Hyundai explains the name matrix as follows: In mathematics, it is the word for an ordered system of values, a geometric and systematic pattern. Hyundai is targeting young drivers. People who love an active lifestyle and also need plenty of space for an equally dynamic lifestyle. To enforce this, Hyundai asked designer Pininfarina to take care of the car's design and, more importantly, to put his trademark on the side of the car.
The window suddenly became a striking style element, because the bottom line of the windows do not run through. The windows in the doors really run through very deep. This creates a generous feeling of space and freedom. And as befits an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), there's no need to complain about space.
For the design of the interior, Hyundai has observed the other manufacturers well. A very unique contribution combines space with good ergonomics and nice equipment. For example, the instruments are located in the middle of the dashboard. The speedometer is centrally located and has a nice scale in three shades of gray. A small tachometer and an LCD display for the trip computer are located around it. The latter should not be confused with an on-board computer, because the trip computer is limited to information about the routes traveled and the action radius in relation to the driving style. However, it lacks a function that would show the current and average consumption.
The rest of the dashboard is finished in two types of plastic, each with its own texture and color. Centrally on the center console are three buttons for temperature control. All versions of the Matrix after the entry-level model are equipped with air conditioning as standard. The center console runs through to the bottom, where the gear stick is placed not on the floor, but in the middle of the center console. The gear stick is perfectly within reach without ever getting misplaced. The handbrake, however, is on the floor and seems to be installed particularly low - also due to the high seats.
